I was intrigued by a man named Noam Chomsky after watching The Corporation by Mark Achbar. So I looked for more, and found Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media...after watching this film there was no turning back. I read his books, watched his lectures - finally, a rational, clear-headed analysis of what the hell is going on, of how the elite class extorts the rest of us.

This was about a year and a half ago during my first semester at Rice University. I\'m now a member of a group called Rice for Peace and Justice, and we\'re trying to organize people around the anti-war effort, labor and immigrant issues, the climate crisis, and economic democracy.

I\'m studying to become an effective activist, learning about sociology, economics, economic sociology, political science, theories of rhetorical communication, and prior activist struggles. I particularly hate the forms of advertising we see - they exemplify all that is wrong. They perform all kinds of psychological studies and tests to see how to most disingenuously and discretely inflitrate our mind\'s materialist desires. So, I also enjoy learning about all kinds of psychology...cognitive, social, developmental, organizational.

On a more personal level I\'m all about being laid back, but I hardly shy away from a good rational argument. More than anything I love to spend time with friends and write. I hope to master the skills I\'m focusing on in college and become a helpful and useful part of the activist community.
