Condemns Incarceration of Fariborz Raeis Dana
Fariborz Raeis Dana a renowned progressive Economist and member of Iranian Writers’ Association’s executive committee was summoned to Geisha prescient of Tehran on Monday morning, 23 May, arrested there and sent directly to Evin prison to carry out a sentence of one year.
Raeis Dana had criticized government’s policy to eliminate all basic subsidies, in an interview on November 2010, and had explained the adverse effects such a policy would have on the living standards of workers and toilers of Iran . He was arrested after that interview, spent a month in prison and freed after bonding bail. In a subsequent trial on 2011 he was sentenced to one year imprisonment. This judgment was upheld in a court of appeals in November 2011. According to his wife, another charge against him is membership in Iranian Writers’ Association.
It has been a year and half since the neoliberal policy to eliminate all basic subsidies has been implemented, and the full effects of such eliminations, as predicted by him, are now evident in run away inflation and daily rising of prices for basic food stuff and daily necessities, leading to worsening of living conditions for vast sectors of workers and toilers in Iran. Raeis Dana has been incarcerated for merely criticizing this policy.
IASWI strongly condemns Raeis Dana’s incarceration and demand his immediate and unconditional release, along with all other imprisoned workers and political prisoners in Iran .

Dear comrades and friends, please take a moment to write a brief letter protesting Raeis Dana's incarceration and demanding his release, either using the text below, or writing a letter of your own.

I (we) are writing this letter to you to protest incarceration of Mr. Fariborz Raeis Dana. His only "crime" has been his principled criticism of government's policy of eliminating subsidies. Independent scholars are constantly harassed and persecuted by security forces in Islamic Republic of Iran.
There are hundreds of other intellectuals, political activists and workers who have been oppressed, and imprisoned by the authorities. I (we) condemn the continuous gross attacks on all scholars in Iran and demand the immediate and unconditional freedom Mr. Fariborz Raeis Dana and all other jailed intellectuals, labor activists, political prisoners and call on the Islamic Republic of Iran to respect the right of workers to organize, assemble and their freedom of association and expression.
