In the three years I’ve kept a blog at ZNet I’ve run across no single commenter more bizarre and unbalanced than "cryofan" (whose real first name may be "Randy"). "cryofan’s" most consistent theme is that I should never talk about race (or gender) because doing so is to advance the agenda of the capitalist overclass and to despicably disrespect and antagonize the inherently virtuous white male working class. "cryofan" makes no distinction between (i) those who talk about race and gender in connection with class and empire and from a Left perspective and (ii) those who talk about race and gender in a divisive bourgeois fashion. This reflects his frankly moronic determination that any mention of these topics inherently makes one a toady of the business elite. "cryofan" loves to lambast genuinely Left writers like myself as "pseudo-Lefty" "meatpuppets" (he actually uses this strange word again and again) of the economic masters. Even when one writes an article or post that makes no explicit reference to race, he writes to say "why didn’t you talk about race, race, race…you are all about serving your masters by talking about race, race, race." It is irrelevant that race probably provides the focus for less than a fourth of my publication and blogging record at ZNet – a larger share of that writing has gone to empire and equivalent amounts have gone to media criticism/elite thought control and related issues of class inequality and conflict. And he seems to have no sense of how incredibly insulting his "analysis" is to…the white male working class, which he is actually protraying as hopelessly racist and sexist.
"cryofan"/"Randy" is out of his mind – simply put, he’s nuts. And by the way and for what it’s worth, he’s a racist.
After a long absence from my comments section he reappeared in the late summer of 2007 and was so insulting, over the top (at one point he actually accused me of mentioning Alan Greenspan’s name in order to curry favor with the overclass), and insistent on making repeated voluminous and bizarre postings that I created this special blog page for him. it is the only place he is allowed to post without facing eventual deletion. This page was created on September 18, 2007.
I think comments as intellectually incompetent, deranged, and insulting as those of the obsessive "cryofan" help degrade and discredit the Internet, undermining its potential to serve as a tool for progressive change. I have therefore decided to no longer permit him to disrupt the discourse on my regular blog. Those who want to get caught up — for whatever dubious (sorry FC) reason — in conversing with this total idiot (I’m sorry but that’s my honest opinion after three years of reading his vapid drivel) will have to do so here on this back post specially set aside as a sort of cybernetic padded cell for kooky "cryofan" and those who care (for what reason I cannot begin to grasp) to engage him; I will not have his nutty and insulting commentary polluting my little corner of ZNet’s regular blog system any further (9/18/2007). He needs to go somewhere else and play with his "meat puppets" in my opinion but here is a little space for him at ZNet, for better or (probably) worse. He can bookmark this page and consider it his home away from home.
Here is some possible partial identifying background on this character:

What follows from here on are the weird, wild and wacky ravings of the great and mysterious "cryofan" on my blog (he sounds more rational as "Randy" in the first URL above, where you can find some decent information):

oh, ah be CRAAAAZY, awright….
ill-informed," my ass.
Ah guar-an-damn-tee ya that ah got more formal education than you, my conformist friend. More degrees. More college hours. More books read. More life experience. More travel. Ah done pulled cable through oily enginerooms, done climbed telephone poles for a living, operated a nuclear reactor under hundreds of feet of seawater all over the world, and had my own skyscraper office with a downtown view and a secretary. Alpha and omega. yadda yadda yadda.
Fact is, paul, that all you do is add your own little tweak to whatever are the dominant stories coming out of the mainstream media and the neocon and the pseudoLeftist blogospheres. You play the game that is gonna sell books or get more speaking fees for whatever rooster done climbed to the top of the publicity dungheap of the american pseudopolitical culture. And maybe someday YOU will be the one momentarily atop that dungheap.
Do your act, Paul.
But don’t call yourself a Leftist.

As for the so called marginal people polluting the ideological ecosystem with "impure" thoughts vis the Net, ha ha, well, tough titty….
Some changes come down, methinks..
Lookit dat der disruptive internet technology a-going to work. Oh my. Gonna get a little creative destruction in dat der american culture. Dat ol’ overclass gonna feel da bite of that progressive taxation, methinks, when the trueleftists finally focus attention on leftist economics and not race and gender and whatever book some overclass member be pumping at any given moment.
Oh me oh my….
Dat overclass not gonna have as much cheap labor when them mean ol’ truepopulist trueleftists stop mass immgiration by pumping out revisionist version of history that illustrate the battle between labor and capital in terms of labor supply and demand and mass immigration and show how it continues today via the pseudoleft.
Oh me oh my….

re: upping the madness ante
there is an old science fiction writing trope that states that any sufficiently advaned extraterrestrial technology (i.e., an alien technology that comes to earth via extraterrestrials) would appear to be magic to any backwards and much less advanced culture.
As a analogy, when dealing with intricate political cultures of the homo sapiens species where mass media is used to disseminate virtually all the ideas of such a political culture, then the more original any new idea in that political culture, the more it will appear to be the work of a madman.
Restated, where the flow of ideas is controlled by those whose interests are affected by said ideas, original ideas (that negatively affect those in control) are deemed crazy.
I think this will go down as Cryofan’s First Law of the Political Ecosystems of Homo Sapiens Americanus.

monkey see monkey do
you wrote:
"Your initial argument was that Paul is trying to mention Greenspan to shill his book. He made no such comment, and in fact was harshly critical of Greenspan and his ilk."
I would not say that my argument is that paul TRIED to shill his book, any more than a bird TRIES to build a nest in the spring or a salmon tries to swim up the stream from which it was spawned so that IT can in turn spawn.
Paul is just monkey seeing, monkey doing his way through the ideological ecosystem. He is aping what others of his niche in his tribe are doing. Those who do not do such actions do not find success as a political writer/blogger etc. So they are not there to act as a model for Paul. He just does what it appears he should be doing. And when and if he ever reaches the top of that dung heap, and the mass media interviews Paul when he puts out a book, some other aspiring pseudoLeftist will ape Paul. It’s an ideological ecosystem. Free will is not in play all that much.
you ask what happened to me
What happened to me was that I have come up with original ideas. In my political exploration I did not discover what political religions were out there and then select one for me. Instead, I created my own interpretation of what is out there.
Paul, if you see a photo of a cougar in alaska and a photo of a cougar in texas, you may notice that the fur of the cougar from alaska is thicker. Why is that? Would’nt it be a natural result of the forces applied to it in that environment?
When you look at the ideology of the American rightwing and the american "left" wing, you see differences. But what forces caused those differences? Is it not true that money is the dominant force that molds those parties?
But the precepts and values and tropes and memes and ideas that YOU find appealing are not much different from those that are well funded by PBS and NPR and the Ford Foundation and academia etc.
Big Money feeds your ideology. THat is the force that molds your ideology. So we must assume from the start that your ideas are accepted by big money.

how am I indecent, pseudoLefty?
are you such a meatpuppet drone of the overclass that you must squelch every orginal thought?

what sect do I belong to?
What "sect" espouses substantially the same views as me? Who is saying that the rich parasitize the rest of us, that the war machine must go, that universal healthcare and a strong social welfare system is good, that nations should be homgeneous, that the pseudoLeft demonizes the white male, that religion is evil, that unfettered capitalism is bad, and that business growth in certain areas should be hampered (e.g., stop companies from expanding in areas that are conducive to solo proprietorships), that our constitution was written for the rich, by the rich, and that parliamentarian systems are better, that race and gender politics is bad, that secession ought to be encouraged for all nations, that the USA should devolve power back to the states, that school vouchers are good.
What sect am I from?
NONE! I am an original.
Also, you seem to imply with that insult (sectarian) that sameness is a weakness. Actually, the evidence and the data and common sense show that quality of life is best for the working people when the nation is homogeneous.
Small homogeneous nations are where the elite cannot divide and rule.
Of course this is all so vcry sectarian according to the pseudoLeft, which of course speaks for the overclass.

if you want grant money from the pseudoLeft, paul, ya gotta somehow tie yer rant to race or gender. or did I miss a reference to race in there? Get back in there and tie it to black homelessness, paul, iffen, that is, you want grant money from the nonprofits.
as for the idea that the homeless serve as a whip to keep us in line, I agree, but you fail to tie it to any plausible mechanism. I gave you that months ago–evolution and natural selection of cultural characteristics: i.e., the homeless are like some aspect of an animal that has evolved due to pressure from environmental forces, e.g., thick fur that was caused by cold weather in northern climates. Here, the homeless as the fur, the desires of the overclass for a pliant workforce is the cold, and the result is the deterrent presence of the homeless on the streets where the workers can see them…..
The policies that effect their presence there evolved over years and decades under pressures from the overclass, where whatever policy works best for them is what survives . More on this in my book HOMO SAPIENS AMERICANUS if I ever complete it and publish it.

race race race race
race race race race
race race race race
race race race race
race race race race
remember, paul, that EVERYTHING on the pseudoleft must eventually tie back to race. THat is all part and parcel of how the elite divide and rule (or as Madison wrote to Jefferson, "divide et impera"). You are doing an excellent job of alienating the largest segment of America workers, the white lower middle class, from Leftism by associating egalitarianism with race, especially Identity Politics.
THAT is how the PseudoLeft, funded by plutocrats through the large nonprofits organizations like the Ford and Rockefeller foundations, which fund thousands of smaller nonprofits, has been created to subvert race-neutral economic egalitarianism with race-and-gender-oriented Identity Politics.
You are jumping right in there and helping the elite divide and rule, paul, and no doubt you will soon be rewarded, just as a beneficial mutation in the animal kingdom rewards that animal with reproductive success. Just as an virus that has adapted to its host animal’s cellular structure and thereby more successfully parasitize its host, you too have adapted your spiel to match up with what the overclass wants. And you will be rewarded when someday your invidious and divisive race and gender schtick is noticed, and your books are subsequently promoted, and you will then reap success.
….Congrats on serving our overclass masters!

he poisons trueleftism with White-hating Identity Politics
…What disingenuous tripe! Paul has just hitched his wagon to DECADES of pseudoLeftist race and gender politics that has ruined the nascent trueLeftism that started in the labor movement of the industrial cities in the late 1800s and was suppresed through growth of the mass media and then by the growth of the fakeLeft nonprofits that started multiculturalism and identity politics.
Well, paul…has it happened? Has your increasing attention to fakeleftist race and gender politics been rewarded yet by a nice grant from a nonprofit foundation? Has the overclass used their nonprofit pseudLeft to reward you for advancing pseudoleftism? HAVE THEY GIVEN YOU A GRANT, PAUL? Do you have their thirty pieces of silver in your palm yet? I am betting that you already have been rewarded by the pseudoLeft nonprofits… or if not yet…..soon…

Paul be helping the overclass Divide et Impera
I see Paul is still banging on that same old pseudoLeftist cryptoRightist drum, helping the overclass divide and rule by playing up the Race Guilt meme. Good on ya, Paul. THe overclass is going reward you with career success any day now for your "good deeds"….

Twisting, twisting, twisting the night away
same as it ever was. You twiist my main points to justify your censorship.
Those who speak for power, for the elite, always want to delete and censor. The pseudoLeft and the right work towards the same goal. Their main tool is control over ideology. Congrats, Paul, by censoring me you have signaled the elite that you will help them control the ideology.
They gonna reward you for sure!
You gonna be on PBS and Fox news and CNN and NPR someday, Paul. I done seed it mah tea leaves. And maybe if you REALLY GOOD, you gonna make all the way to Oprah!
