Recent news re: the mainstream media’s Impeachment double standard:
Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting has outed CNN for an overt pro-Bush double standard on coverage of last week’s House Judiciary Committee’s inquiry into Executive abuse of power based on Rep. Kucinich’s Articles of Impeachment. The out-of-context and unrepresentative sound bites are particularly misleading. And it’s not just CNN either.
Whether you happen to think it’s politically prudent or not, it seems outrageous that the question of impeachment isn’t even getting debated in the news media. Because it’s out of favor with either Republican or Democratic elite opinion (e.g. Pelosi, Reid, and Obama), it essentially doesn’t exist and is not worthy of discussion.
And for a little memory jog, another CNN clip, this one from the latter days of the Clinton era when impeachment talk was all the rage (the Presidents’s favorable rating is all the way down to 50% this week!):
"A popular government, without popular information or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy; or, perhaps, both." –James Madison, 1822
