Andrew Nikiforuk, author of The Alberta Tar Sands – Dirty Oil and the Future of a Continent, is on a cross-Canada tour to discuss the political, environmental, labour and economic dimensions of the energy mega-project that is the tar sands.
His visit to Saskatchewan in March will take him to a number of centres, including Regina.
Here in the Queen City, he will debate Dr. Carolyn Preston of the Petroleum Technology Research Centre on March 19th at 7:00pm.
This debate will be held in the U of R’s Education Auditorium, with doors opening at 6:30pm. There is no charge to attend the debate, though a collection plate will be passed to cover costs. More information can be found by calling Don Narine at 306-527-4566.
The debate over Saskatchewan’s place in the North American and global energy economies of tomorrow is becoming ever more serious. Nikiforuk’s tour–including his visit to Regina and other Saskatchewan communities–will make an important contribution to that public conversation.
