Angelo Lopez

Ever since Angelo Lopez was a child he has drawn on any scrap of paper he could get a hold of. When Angelo went to San Jose State University, his college paintings were heavily influenced by the humorous illustrations of Peter De Seve, an illustrator for the New Yorker magazine. Angelo also fell under the spell of the great muralists of the 1930s, especially Thomas Hart Benton and Diego Rivera. He graduated with a degree in Illustration.

Since my time in college, Angelo illustrated 3 books: Two Moms the Zark and Me by Johnny Valentine in 1993; Night Travelers by Sue Hill in 1994; and Cherubic Children’s New Classic Story Book Volume 2 for Cherubic Press in 1998. He's painted murals for Lester Shields Elementary School in San Jose, the Berryessa branch of the San Jose Public Library, and the Sunnyvale Public Library.

He's had a few illustrations published in South Bay Accent Magazine, Tikkun Magazine, the Palo Alto Daily News and in April 2008 my artwork was on the cover of Z Magazine. Since April 9, 2008, his cartoons regularly appear in the Tri-City Voice, a weekly newspaper that covers the Fremont, Hayward, Milpitas, Neward, Sunol and Union City areas in California. These political cartoons qualified Angelo to join the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.  You could look at more cartoons here http://editorialcartoonists.com/cartoonist/profile.cfm/LopezA/

Angelo is also a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. To see some of his more whimsical illustrations, just go to http://www.scbwinorthca.org/bios/onlinegallery/bio_Angelo_Lopez.htm

Since 2006 Angelo Lopez has been a member of the co-op gallery, Gallery Saratoga http://www.gallerysaratoga.com/artists/Lopez/index.html
