David Cromwell is a fulltime writer and co-editor, with David Edwards of Media Lens (http://www.medialens.org). He is also co-founder, with Mark Levene, of the Crisis Forum (http://www.crisis-forum.org.uk). Originally from Glasgow, where he obtained a PhD in solar physics, he left in 1988 to take up a research position in Boulder, Colorado. He then worked for Shell in the Netherlands for five years before returning to the UK in 1993 to join the institution now known as the National Oceanography Centre.
David has written many articles on the environment, politics, social justice and science for newspapers, magazines and websites. He lives in Southampton with his partner and two sons. David`s first book 'Private Planet' (http://www.private-planet.com) was published in 2001 (Jon Carpenter). He is co-author with David Edwards of 'Guardians of Power: The Myth of the Liberal Media' (Pluto Press, 2006) and 'Newspeak in the 21st Century' (Pluto Press, 2009). He is also co-editor of 'Surviving Climate Change: The Struggle to Avert Global Catastrophe' (Pluto Press, 2007).
