You have to read the last few paragraphs of the article. Also note that in journalism the last few paragraphs are considered to be the least important information as they can be cut out by editors. Also most people only every read the first couple of paragraphs. Moral of the story, always read to the end and note what is at the end……

Ok so the former chief of military intelligence of Israel (Mr Farkash) has started a facial recognition company which has already deployed its hardware and software in the US. Verdict that it works very good and can be used for a variety of uses. Deployed in a variety of high profile and public spaces, from schools, universities, airports etc.

His motive for creating the company was to separate the good guys from the bad guys. So how does the former chief of military intelligence of Israel define a “bad guy”.

Tragic that the people of Europe have such a short memory as to what can happen when people lose their private lives and at the same time, the media demonises a section of the population.

So lets connect the dots “smart cities”, the international programme to make your city smart and automatically smart, Israel are the Strategic Partners of Spain for Smart Cities. Israel specialised and is leading the world in surveillance and militarisation of the tech industry to get the “bad guys”.

Questions that needs to be asked point are? Who holds the data? Who has access to the data? How is it passed between agencies and private organisations and how visible, transparent is the criteria set for tracking the bad guys.

What happens when the “bad guys” identified. How much is this impinging now, today on the rights of an individual to dissent. Are people with pro-Palestinian politics on the list.

Is this done by agreement of the governments where the hard wear and software is deployed or could the technical staff install a back-door to grab the data they need for intelligence for other countries. Does it go to the highest bidder?

What is already out there? Where is it? Who has it? Does the public know and understand what this means to them?

This does not sound good. I am only aware of smart cities from the environmental point of view. I will look more carefully at the info I find about the program. I’ll let you know if I learn anything about the surveillance end.
