OCCUPY TOGETHER – Occupy Together is the unofficial hub for the various occupations springing up across the country in solidarity with Occupy Wall St. Over 1,000 cities and towns are currently participating.


SCHOOL OF AMERICAS – The School of Americas Watch will be in Washington, DC, April 14-17, for training, lobbying, civil disobedience, and to celebrate the resistance.


ABORTION RIGHTS – The 26th annual conference, From Abortion Rights to Social Justice: Building the Movement for Reproductive Freedom, will take place April 13-15, at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, featuring workshops and training.

BOOKFAIR – The 6th Annual NYC Anarchist Book Fair will be held April 14 at Judson Memorial Church in Manhattan.

FARMERS/PEASANTS – April 17 is the International Day of Farmers Struggle. April 10-17 will be a continental (the Americas) week against trans- genetic maize. Activities are planned in 29 countries.


MILITARY SPENDING – April 17 is a Global Day of Action on Military Spending. Events are planned worldwide.


SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY – Georgia Southern University’s Department of Literature & Philosophy will host the Undergraduate Conference: Social Responsibility, April 13-14, in Statesboro, GA. Papers will be presented addressing the merits, demerits, and sustainability of social responsibility; as well as presentations which analyze ethical systems.


EARTH DAY – April 22 is Earth Day, with diverse local actions around the world promoting sustainable ecology. A festival is scheduled for Santa Barbara, CA, April 21-22.

MUMIA ABU-JAMAL/POLITICAL PRISONERS – Millions 4 Mumia, the American Friends Service Committee, and other groups are calling for supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal to be at the U.S. Justice Department on Mumia’s birthday, April 24, with the goal of freeing him and all political prisoners. The day is also being declared Occupy the Justice Department day.

HUMAN RIGHTS – The annual Get On the Bus for Human Rights event is scheduled for April 27. Organized by Amnesty International USA Group 133 of Somerville, MA, the event draws over 1,000 participants to take peaceful action in front of embassies, consulates and corporate headquarters in New York City.


PEACE FAIR – The 8th Annual Brooklyn Peace Fair will be held at Brooklyn College on April 28, under the theme Ending War, Promoting Peace. Featured speakers include Jeremy Scahill and Capt. Paul Chappell. There will be workshops, community organizing and cultural events. 


DRONES – The peace group CODEPINK, the legal advocacy organization Reprieve, and the Center for Constitutional Rights are hosting the first international drone summit, Washington, DC, April 28-29. The summit will bring together drone-strike victims, human rights advocates, robotics technology experts, journalists and activists


COKE – Killer Coke is planning actions for the next Annual Meeting of Shareowners of the Coca- Cola Company in Atlanta, GA, April 25.


MAY DAY – General Strike is called for May Day by many groups, and events are planned worldwide.


LABOR – The 2012 Labor Notes Conference, themed Solidarity for the 99%, will be held May 4-6, in Chicago. Thousands of union members, officers, and grassroots labor activists will attend the event, which features workshops, meetings and organizing opportunities.

NATO/G8 – The Coalition Against NATO/G8 War & Poverty Agenda is organizing protests at the NATO and G8 meetings being held in Chicago,  May 19-21. A legal, permitted, family-friendly march and rally are planned for May 19. An Occupy Chicago month-long occupation is being planned to begin May 1. The Network for a Nato-Free Future will also be hosting a Counter-Summit for Peace and Economic Justice May 18-19 at People’s Church in Chicago.

PEOPLE’S SUMMIT – The People’s Summit for Social and Environmental Justice during Rio+20 is an event by global civil society that will take place between the 15th and the 23rd of June at Flamengo, in Rio de Janeiro—alongside the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD), Rio+20.

ESSAYS – The Daniel Singer Millennium Prize Foundation invites submissions to the 2012 Daniel Singer Prize competition of up to 5,000 words exploring the question: “From Tahrir and Syntagma Square to the Indignados and the 99% movement, 2011 saw people in the streets challenging the monopoly of political, economic and financial power by elite minorities. FEMINISM – Selma James is currently on tour promoting her new book, Sex, Race and Class – The Perspective of Winning, A Selection of Writings 1952- 2011.  James’ writing helped redefine the working class to include sectors previously dismissed as marginal. She sums up her strategy for change as “Invest in Caring not Killing.”

OCCUPY MUSIC – The Occupy Musicians is a new group formed with the idea that there should be a committed organization to feed protests with music and inspire creativity; and then take that to a wider audience beyond the protest.

WOODY GUTHRIENew Multitudes is a CD by Jay Farrar (Son Volt; Uncle Tupelo), Will Johnson (Centro-matic), Anders Parker (Varnaline), and Jim James (My Morning Jacket). The four wrote new songs using previously unrecorded lyrics written by Woody Guthrie. The four are touring the U.S. through the summer.


60s/COUNTERCULTURE – David Peel & the Lower East Side has released a new CD, Anthology, on GRA Records. The CD covers a spectrum of songs from 1967-2010. The band is touring in support of the release.


FOLK/ROCK – Todd Snider’s new album, Agnostic Hymns & Stoner
