"WE CREATE OUR OWN REALITY"
The Mr. Magoo-like imperviousness to reality is a distinctive characteristic of the "faith-based" Bush administration. Journalist Ron Suskind captured this worldview in a New York Times piece Oct. 17, 2004.
An unnamed "Bush aide" (whom many believe to be Karl Rove) informed Suskind that the reporter was frozen "in what we call the reality-based community," composed of people who "believe the solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality. "
The "Bush aide" then snarled:
" That’s not the way the world works anymore. We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own realit.y And while you’re studying that reality–judiciously, as you will–we’ll act agaih, creating other new realiites, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors…and you, all of you, will be left to study what we do."
