Ann Ferguson

Ann Ferguson is a feminist philosopher who is an emerita Professor of Women's Studies and Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Her areas of specialization are feminist theory, philosophy of sexuality and queer theory, ethics and social and political philosophy with a focus on race, class and gender and Latin American feminist theory and practice. She has written two books and numerous articles in feminist theory, ethics and politics. The books are: Blood at the Root: Motherhood, Sexuality and Male Dominance (London: Pandora\Unwin Hyman, 1989) and Sexual Democracy: Women, Oppression and Revolution (Boulder: Westview, 1991). She also co-edited a book in feminist ethics with Bat Ami Bar On, Daring to be Good: Feminist Essays in Ethico-Politics (Routledge, 1998), and has a book-in-press with Oxford University co-edited by Mecke Nagel which is an anthology discussing the works of feminist philosopher Iris Marion Young called Dancing with Iris. Ferguson has been a feminist activist in the women's movement, the anti-war movement since the 1960s, university left politics including trade union struggles, and Latin American solidarity movements, particularly with Nicaragua, El Salvador and Mexico. She is a member of Feminist Aid to Central America, has worked with the left organization Solidarity, the Center for Global Justice and CEDESA (a campesino sustainable development project), both in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico.
