Hi Shami,
John McDonnell was recently interviewed by Alastair Campbell.for GQ Magazine
He invited Campbell back into Labour, said Blair was not a war criminal, and even added that he hoped Blair would not go down in history over Iraq – an unprovoked war of aggression that took the lives of 500k – 1 million Iraqis.
Here is a link to the interview.
Within the 1:30 – 2:30 point are his comments on Blair. At about 6:55 he invited Campbell back into the Labour party.
You said in a February interview with Sky News that
“it is incumbent on people like me as a member of the left, to call out governments and states of the left because human rights have to be applied with an even hand”
In that interview you also described yourself as a “human rights campaigner”.
As such, could you please comment on what McDonnell said?
Incidentally, one reason Blair may not eventually go down in history over Iraq (as McDonnell hopes) is that the British public is amazingly ignorant of the costs of the Iraq war.
As of 2013, 59% believed fewer than 10,000 Iraqis died as a result of the war.
Only 6% were able to give estimates of the death toll that were in line with what scientific surveys had found.

Look forward to your reply.
